Why  LED - UV
UV lamp is a abbreviation for a lamp emitting ultra violet light/ray (UV). A UV lamp is typically a gas discharge lamp.  Its working principle is: add high purity mercury into through to vacuum of the quarts tube, provide voltage difference through both end sides of the electrodes and produce ion discharge. The result will be a UV radiation. LED-UV light source is a new type of UV curing lights. Compared with traditional lamps. It’s 60% energy saving, environmental protection and no harmful substances, and can be recycled. Life time is up to 50,000 hours however, we calculate with about 20.000 hours, which is a lot. Compared with a UV point source (mercury lamp) the UV at LEDs is created at the surface of the lamp and can be therefore controlled much easier, almost no irradiation angle light and it will avoid waste and pollution. LED-UV light offers many advantages 1. Lifetime: the lifetime is at least 10 times higher compared to the lifetime of a traditional mercury lamp 2. cold light: no heat is radiated which means there is no thermal influence to sensitive media. Furthermore the workaround will not be heated up.   3. Instant light: When switched on, LED UV lamps will be at 100% power instantly, no pre heating or so is necessary. Will mean, just when after initialisation of the printer you can start rather than waiting for half an hour or so. You will save a lot of electric energy, can start earlier and even the eyes and skin of you operators will be less effected 4. The lifetime of a traditional mercury lamp is related to the number of on/off cycles. Each cycle will cost about 6 hours of the life time. LEDs don’t have this problem. 5. UV-inks need a certain energy dose for initial curing process and final curing. While LEDs offer the full dose immediately after switched on, mercury lamps need about 20 minutes or even longer to “warm up” and even need for each print cycles about 2 minutes. Another important item is the wave length needed. While LEDs offer stable frequency for entire lifetime, mercury lamps don’t offer a stable wave length. 6. Since LED UV spectrum is exactly matching the photo receptors which are part of the ink, mercury lamps don’t offer a closer spectrum resulting in oxygen impact and creation of ozone. So, UV-printers utilizing LEDs don’t need special air cleaning devises for absorption of ozone. 7. Since LEDs can be switched on and off when needed or not needed, and even because of the unit itself, it’s possible to save up to 70% of electric energy or even more. 8. LED lamps don’t need maintenance or replacement. The normal life time is set at about 20.000 hours and more. So calculate yourself how many years you can run a lamp. 9. Traditional mercury lamps radiate a wide spectrum of UV light including UVA, UVB, UVC which are dangerous for human skin, so extended safety and protection arrangements must be taken.  LED UV light  just contain short UV waves, which are more safe. However, we strongly recommend to wear long sleeves shirts, UV protecting gloves and even UV protection glasses!
